Golf Course Details

Created in the early 70s both the Gainsborough and Constable golf courses are well-established amongst lakes and mature trees. The designs skilfully incorporate the inherent natural beauty of the land.

Description

The Gainsborough course measures over 7,000 yards with a par of 71. The undulating terrain and four substantial lakes challenge the skills of golfers of all abilities. The 10th requires a drive and second shot over the same lake, when played from the back tee, and has been voted one of the most outstanding holes in East Anglia by the PGA.

Course Facts

  • The amateur course record from the white tees is 63
  • In competitions during 2017, the 10th hole has only recorded 4 birdies
  • The 10th hole is the hardest on the course, with an average score score 5.77 for men and 6.64 for ladies
  • The Gainsborough is 7,098 yards from the black tees and 6,321 yards from the white tees

Other Facilities

There is the Peake Spa with a pool, steam room, sanarium (a weaker version of a sauna), a jacuzzi and a concept shower (whatever that is). It is open from 07:30-19:30, but we will just need to book 2 hours in advance.

Principal Competition Points

As the trophy returned to the Bangs clan last year, it makes complete sense to keep points arrangements and the like the same for 2023, so no tinkering this time around, bar an adjustment for an extra player.
Points will be scored each day based upon the following table, depending upon your Stableford points score, which takes into account the relative handicaps:
SaturdaySundayMonday
1st203040
2nd182533
3rd162228
4th141924
5th121620
6th101316
7th81013
8th6810
9th467
10th245
11th123

Bonus Points

Three bonus points will be available on each of two holes on all of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, as drawn randomly – these are called “bullet holes” and everyone who equals the best net scores on those holes will receive the three points.

Special SHIT Rules (“Angel Poo”)

On all golfing days (unless specified differently), the following special rules will apply:
  • Mulligan or Reverse Mulligan (1 per round per player, cannot be carried over)
  • Fairway Robbery (1 per round per player) [NB. There are no reverse Fairway Robbery]
  • Big Gimmee (1 per round per player)
  • Joker (1 per round per player) to be called before playing tee shot on any hole for double points on that hole
  • Big Girl's Blouse (1 per round per player)
  • String Theory (Sunday only) - 11 to 1 foot lengths of string drawn at random
Dave Rose (Official Golf Nerd) to hold casting vote any real “Rules of Golf” issues.

Prizes

Prizes may be available for the following categories:
  • Longest drive - Sunday (minor prize)
  • Nearest the pin any hole - Sunday (minor prize)
  • Longest drive - Monday (main prize)
  • Nearest the pin any hole - Monday (main prize)
  • Overall competition winner (may include trophy)

Handicap Adjustments

In a change of practice, it appears that we decided to amend the starting handicaps for 2023 based upon adjusting the final day handicaps in 2022. Therefore the starting handicaps for 2023 are as follows:
Andy18Keith29
Ben7Luke18
Dan C23Mark36
Danny B27Martin12
Dave16Ross22
As a Big Lynn virgin, Alex will have a starting handicap of 36, the maximum allowed handicap.
Handicap changes for day 2 and day 3 will as always be based upon the performance from the previous day. With 10/11 competitors, the following matrix is to be applied based upon your finishing score and the number of golfers on the day.
Note: Where there are positional ties, all competitors will be adjusted as if they had finished in the tied position - i.e. if two players are tied for 2nd on a day, they will both be adjusted as if they finished 2nd by themselves.
